EnergyScope
Data sources and methodology
Each series is reviewed separately for source, reuse rights, units, time zone, coverage and revisions.
What ES Market Watch means
ES Market Watch is EnergyScope's name for organising and explaining market information. It is not an official index, an energy quote or a weighted composite series. Electricity, gas and official business statistics remain separate, and unapproved sources display no figures. Any future weighted index would first need a defined market, verified derivative-use rights, a published base period, fixed weights, missing-data and revision rules, plus separate product and release review. There is currently no ES index figure.
Electricity source and definition
Electricity candidates use Elexon BMRS Market Index Data (MID). APX MID and N2EX MID are separate provider series in £/MWh. Neither is a day-ahead exchange price or a supplier contract quote to a business.
Calculation and quality
Raw records retain UTC half-hour periods. Daily candidates are volume-weighted over periods with positive traded volume. Zero-volume periods are excluded and flagged. Publication also requires at least 95% valid-period coverage, no quality flags, and recorded approval for the source, series and daily snapshot. A revision invalidates affected snapshot approval.
Updates and limitations
Published views show the observation window, last successful ingestion and staleness. Data can be delayed or revised, and cannot determine a business's final rate or savings. Gas and official business benchmarks await separate source and method reviews; demo data is never substituted.
